Opportunity:
Nova Scotia Power came to Summerhill in 2008 looking to leverage our expertise in designing and delivering public engagement initiatives to help achieve their province-wide energy conservation targets. Together, we successfully collaborated to achieve Nova Scotia Power's goals from 2008 through 2010 and as of 2011, this partnership has shifted to deliver the same services (and more) through our new partnership with Efficiency Nova Scotia Corporation.
Client Needs:
- To leverage external expertise in designing cost effective energy conservation programs
- To leverage external expertise in executing initiatives to assist/encourage residential and commercial customers to take action on tangible energy conservation measures
- To achieve significant MWh reduction targets across all sectors, province-wide
- To create local capacity through green jobs
- To improve positive brand recognition among Nova Scotians
Summerhill's Approach:
- Facilitated partnerships with local stakeholders to combine Summerhill's national expertise with local (on the ground) expertise
- Established framework to identify and evaluate the most cost effective and unique opportunities to achieve targets – leveraging Summerhill's national best practices
Results:
- Executed four sector-specific, mass market, province-wide programs positively engaging thousands of Nova Scotians to-date
- Successfully engaged as many Nova Scotians as possible – small businesses, single family homes, apartment complexes and community housing
- Achieved over 73 GWh of energy savings to the province to-date, and counting
- Met and exceeded energy conservation targets each year to-date
- Created more local green jobs capacity through establishment of over 40 full-time jobs and over 140 part-time positions to-date
