Carbon Neutral

Summerhill, the managing company of Summerhill Carbon, will achieve carbon neutral status for 2009 by offsetting our office operations, paper use, employee commuting, and corporate travel.

Summerhill started tracking our environmental impact in 2007 by calculating the emissions from our office operations and corporate travel. In 2008, we added to the scope of our carbon footprinting project to include employee commuting.

Summerhill will continue to track our environmental impact and find new, innovative ways to reduce our carbon footprint. But for those activities we are unable to omit or reduce, Summerhill purchases offsets through Summerhill Carbon.

Some of the things we currently do include:

• Purchase 100% renewable electricity through Bullfrog Power
• Encourage all staff to walk, bike, or use public transit for meetings
• Provide AutoShare memberships to staff for travel to locations where transit is not accessible
• Undertake office renovations including top-of-the-line HVAC equipment, low-flow toilets, water filters, and other environmentally-preferable products
• Use only 100% post-consumer recycled paper
• Negotiated Green Bin compost collection with the City of Toronto
• Conduct webinars whenever feasible in order to minimize travel
• Host carbon-neutral events only
• Use bike couriers as often as possible
