Chill Out

 

Chill Out was a campaign designed to encourage the retirement and recycling of old, inefficient refrigerators and freezers, and promote the uptake of new, more efficient ENERGY STAR® models, through incentives and education.

  • Over 5,200 appliances were retired and responsibly recycled
  • Electricity consumption was reduced by 5.4 million kWh annually

Program Participants were provided with a free and easy solution to significantly reduce their energy bills through two streams: Retire It! which offered customers the free pick-up and removal of their old appliance, and an energy savings kit; and Replace It! which offers customers who retire their old appliance and go on to purchase a new ENERGY STAR® model an energy savings kit and $75 cash.

Utility Partner, London Hydro, provided a cash incentive to encourage refrigerator retirement and achieved significant energy savings by taking old inefficient fridges off the grid.

Retail Partners promoted the program offer and provided pick-up and fridge removal support. They also benefited from increased sales of new ENERGY STAR refrigerators.
