Cut It Out Toronto
In Operation: October – November 2009
Encouraging Toronto residents to retire their older, high-polluting two-stroke gas-powered lawn equipment
The City of Toronto is recycling its older, inefficient two-stroke equipment and replacing it with newer, cleaner technology. Residents can participate by recycling their old two-stroke gas mower, trimmer, leaf blower or chainsaw at Community Environment Days.
In 2009, Cut It Out Toronto collected and recycled 283 pieces of lawn equipment, 213 of which were powered by higher-polluting gas engines. The retirement of that gas-powered lawn equipment was equivalent to preventing the release of over 10 tonnes of greenhouse gas and smog-forming emissions.
Program Participants can take advantage of free recycling services, receive a $10 Home Depot gift card and enter to win new electric lawn equipment from Recharge Mower and Black & Decker!
The City of Toronto benefits by reducing smog-forming emissions and greenhouse gas emissions from older high-polluting equipment, contributing toward the City’s environmental goals.
Our Incentive Partners Recharge Mower, Black & Decker and The Home Depot Canada benefit from increased awareness of alternatives to gas equipment that they supply and sell.
Our Recycling Partners benefit from community goodwill and promotion of the environmentally-sound recycling services they provide for end-of-life vehicles.
