Energy Smarts
In Operation: 2004 – 2007
Bringing energy efficient products and information to consumers across Canada
Energy Smarts was a national retail-based energy efficiency campaign that ran from 2004 until 2007. Energy Smarts provided customers with valuable information and in-store discounts on products to help conserve and use energy more efficiently. The program also included various water conservation products and mechanisms to improve indoor air quality.
Interesting facts regarding the Energy Smarts program include:
- Designed to provide tangible and actionable information on a variety of energy efficient products as opposed to simply highlighting rebates and discounts
- Focused on traditional energy efficient products such as CFLs and programmable thermostats as well as more innovative systems such as tankless hot water heaters and sun tunnels
- Displayed Summerhill Impact’s and The Home Depot Canada’s commitment to customer education regarding the benefits of environmentally preferable products
- Awarded a Market Transformation Award from Natural Resources Canada in 2004
Program Participants benefited from discounts on energy-efficient products such as compact fluorescent lights, programmable thermostats, solar lighting, aerators, dimmers, timers, furnace filters, and ENERGY STAR doors and windows.
Our Retail Partner, The Home Depot Canada, successfully displayed their commitment to customer education regarding the benefits of environmentally preferable products. Energy Smarts also provided a good opportunity for The Home Depot’s Eco Options magazine to be promoted and offered to a wide variety of customers that may not have been exposed to the publication otherwise.
Manufacturer Partners were able to promote their environmentally preferable solutions while also having Summerhill Impact environmental ambassadors explain their health-related, cost reduction, and environmental benefits. They had the opportunity to have hundreds of Canadians purchase and use their products and services, many for the first time.
