Switch Out is a national program designed to remove, collect and manage mercury-containing convenience lighting switches and anti-lock braking system (ABS) sensor modules in end-of-life vehicles before they are flattened, shredded and recycled into new steel. 

To date, Switch Out has:

  • Over 300,000 switches have been recovered, preventing 255 kilograms of mercury, a toxic metal, from entering the environment.
  • Over 850 automotive recycling and dismantling business are registered as Switch Out participants.

Industry Partners benefit from improved corporate and brand image resulting from promotion and outreach done by Summerhill Impact.

Participating Automotive Recyclers & Dismantlers benefit from the greater ease of selling their product as purchasers in their industry prefer suppliers who participate in Switch Out. Program participation is completely free of charge and the industry as a whole achieves better positioning in the market place due to their environmental contribution.
