The Home Depot
Eco Options Product Verification Process
Since 2004, Summerhill has administered the Eco Options Product Verification Process on behalf of The Home Depot Canada. The Eco Options brand helps consumers easily identify which home-improvement products are better choices for the environment. Eco Options products must have less impact on the environment than conventional products and/or provide a positive environmental change through their use.
To ensure each Eco Options product meets these standards, The Home Depot Canada has a rigorous, comprehensive product-verification process. Eco Options-approved products are, in most cases, already certified by highly regarded third-party programs such as:
These organizations are undisputed environmental leaders and products meeting their standards are accepted for Eco Options once their certification claim has been verified.
For non-certified, environmentally preferable products submitted for Eco Options consideration, the supplier must answer a series of detailed questions using a sophisticated database. To be approved for Eco Options, the supplier must provide supporting documentation to verify the product's compliance with Eco Options criteria, which include energy use/conservation, reduced toxicity, water efficiency, recycled material, clean air, clean water and indoor-air-quality improvements. To date Summerhill has verified over 1,700 Eco Options products.
